Southampton 2s took to the field against local rivals Millbrook with a host of new players as the Second team continued its expansion.
Wyverns Ryan Davies, Eric Perkins, Jack Etheridge, Chris Bond and Owain Davies all made their debuts for Southampton, with Owain Davies gamely stepping in to fill a gap out of position at second row. Solent Students Isaac Churchill and Oscar also pulled on the red and white for the first time, with Neelam Smith joining the team for his first game of the season.
The result didn't go Southampton's way with Millbook running away with the win 5 - 43, but Southampton showed some moments of real quality for a team who had never played together before. Isaac Churchill had an excellent game and scored a superb individual try, with Oscar carrying the ball well at centre until a dead leg brought his game to an early end. Eric Perkins put in some big hits while all the players showed willingness to swap positions when injuries disrupted Southampton's plans.
Isaac Churchill took the Man of the Match award while prop Rob Greenaway claimed the Dick of the Day after attempting to grubber the ball through the defence as Saints closed in on the Millbrook line. Props kicking! The world has gone mad.
