A very happy Christmas from all at Southampton Rugby Club

Southampton finish 2011 nine points clear at the top after a 91-0 win over bottom-placed Stoneham brought a very happy Christmas to Test Park.

Julian Robins and Ray Davies both scored hat-tricks, with Maika Bunny and Ryan Keary grabbing a pair each. Doug Barrow, Russ Clark, Tom Jackson and Mark Waterer also bagged tries, with Tom Baldwin, Doug Barrow Ryan Keary sharing kicking duties between them.

But most people's moment of the match came when Eric Johnson took a pop from a ruck deep inside his own half. He then sidestepped the defending forwards like a 22 stone Brian O'Driscoll and then, in broke the laws of physics by outpacing the Stoneham backs to the line.

He is still trying to get his breath back.

It's been a mixed year. After the crushing disappointment of relegation at the end of the 10/11 season, new coaches Mark Flower and Bernie Rhodes and a mass of new players have transformed the team.

Southampton are playing with confidence and flair and at the halfway point in the season you'd have to say they look a good bet to bounce back to Hampshire One.

Happy Christmas from everyone at Southampton RFC. See you in the New Year.
