Southampton Rugby Club won their 2nd straight game 99-5 against Kingsclere.
SRFC turned up with a full squad including a few regular players returning from absences - the hard work in training mixed with he core of the team being regulars at training clearly showed with the fluid backline and much improved scrum. Kingsclere were obviously understrengthed but nothing can be taken away from a very clinical win.
SRFC broke through to score in under 2 minutes after the Kingsclere kickoff didn't go 10 and SRFC started their unstoppable scrummaging machine - which didn't falter once all game.
More poor Kingsclere kick offs lead to more SRFC possession in the opposition half and more opportunities.
Head Coach / Fly Half Tom Morton was kicking expertly to get Southampton out of trouble but the only kick that will be remembered is the one charged down... However the Kingsclere player forgot to use his hands and took he full force of the ball to his face. The sound was deafening.
With 15 tries in total, and 12 successful conversions, there is too much for one report but some highlights are:
- Joe on the wing dropping an easy pass under no pressure when clean through
- Captain Chris' similar inability to catch when a try opportunity was begging... earning himself a free dirty pint in the post match presentation afterwards
- Ian Budd showing his inner Fijian with off loads like he was playing 7s
- Big Andy Powell hand-offing a player so far he might still be sliding back now
- Finally Alex Windle who clearly benefitted from the love and support from he supporters on the sideline to waddle through for an easy try
The win was duly celebrated in the clubhouse with German Night being a resounding success.
Onwards and upwards for SRFC!
